November LOD: Jen’s full makeup routine

I thought you all might like to see one day’s full morning makeup routine: prep, skincare & ALL the makeup items I use. A good number of these are products I use everyday.

Of course, I begin with a clean face. Usually I use just warm water in the morning. However there has been one big change to my routine in the last couple years. I used to start with skincare but…….

#1.) With my current routine, I now start with lid primer and eyeshadow! The reason for that is because I may wear more eyeshadow than I used to, and more layers of eyeshadow, so I find that cleanup of any fall-out is much easier on a bare face.

Here I used @morphebrushes X Maddie Ziegler THE IMAGINATION PALETTE. I bought this palette on a lark because of its bright matte shades (although at the time I wasn’t sure how much use I would get out of those wild shades). Turns out, particularly the matte shades, can create a stunningly colorful lid. Of the 25 shades in this palette I would say it is actually mostly neutrals with just enough color for real impact.

For this look I used these shades:

  • Butterfly Fantasy (matte pale cream) for a base lid color—used from the upper lash line all the way up to the brows
  • M3 (matte, deep cedar brown) for the wide crease, and Latte (matte milky coffee tan) for the inner crease
  • She Insists (vivid, matte lilac) for the whole middle lid
  • Possy (frosty deep ultraviolet) on the outer V of the lid, along with a little Go Home (matte merlot)
  • Godmom (a sheer shimmering barely pink champagne with silver micro glitter) with a fingertip, to the inner lid
  • layers of She Insists and Possy on the lower lash line

After using a makeup wipe to sweep away any dustings of fallen eyeshadow, I layer on the all-important skincare (which I’m not including in the numbered list, because its not face color). My current routine includes a face oil @elemis PRO-COLLAGEN ROSE FACIAL OIL, moisturizer @formula1006 Seriously Shine Free Mattifying Oil-free Moisturizer (which is also seriously! affordable) and, in this case, @trinnylondon BFF Cream. I’m using the Trinny BFF Cream in the shade LIGHT in place of separate sunscreen, moisture, illuminator and face primer.

Sometimes I use a serum in place of a facial oil, always applying these in a thin layer. I particularly target areas where I see the beginning of wrinkles, dry patches of skin, and always on an area of my forehead where I have the remnants of some really old sunburn scars (which are barely there now).

This first step has made a big difference in my skin’s resiliency. Some of my favorite serums are: @earthharbor Aurora Superfood Luminance Ampoule, @snowfoxskincare Herbal Youth, and the one that kicked off this obsession for me—@ogee Jojoba Restore Face Oil.

2.) Foundation—currently I am using two shades: a pale foundation on the middle of my face, the high planes that pick up the most light, AND 3.) a medium-toned foundation for the perimeter of the face (plus a little concealer to cover any dark undereye circles or blemishes):

Currently, many days I will just use these two Kat Von D True Portrait Liquid-to-Powder Foundations: TAN 070 & LIGHT 008—the light shade all over and the dark shade for contouring around the forehead and cheek bones. btw-which are currently on sale! A sponge is my choice for applying foundation, especially one with a pointed side to precisely blend around the eyes and side of nose.

4.) Face Powder—I apply this mainly under my eyes to set foundation as well as in the t-zone. For this look I used Too Faced Peach Perfect Setting Powder in translucent (it also comes in Caramelized Peach for darker tones). It is fluffy in texture, has a faint peach scent, does not crease and stays matte. I apply this with my Juvia’s Place Brush because it is fairly small and has a rounded-off tip.

5.) BronzerIf I’d used the light and the really tan shades of foundation combination this step could have been skipped. However, since I only used colors that are very close to my skin tone, here I used @meltcosmetics BLUSHLIGHT in Lynx. Lynx is a really delicate sun kissed shade with a bit of gold glow. I like to use a Real Techniques Large #203 Rebel Edge large, fluffy angled brush with bronzer pressed powders.

6.) Blush—@makeupforever Artist Face Color blushes in B202 lilac and B212 pink. I use a smaller Real Techniques Medium #403 Rebel Edge brush. Usually, I just mix these two together with the brush when applying to create my own custom color. I target blush placement above the contour shade and mainly on the apples of cheeks.

7.) Brows—@BenefitCosmetics Precisely My Brow pencil in shade 3.5 (neutral medium brown) although I could probably also get away with 2.5 (neutral blonde). I really like this pencil because the color twists out of the container (no sharpening), it glides on easily, creates fairly thin lines and stays put.

Here are all the lash and lash line products:

8.) Lash Tightline color: @wetnwildbeauty Kohl Eye Crayon in Baby’s Got Black, which is only $1.19. 9.) Liquid Eyeliner: @hauslabs LIQUID EYE-LIE-NER in Punk.

10.) Mascara, two kinds—A. first coat @Liasoneyes vol.1 Mascara Bond (which includes a nourishing lash serum), B. second coat @iliabeauty LIMITLESS LASH MASCARA in AFTER MIDNIGHT (black).

11.) Prep lips with balm, liner and foundation:

Using: @mycarmex Strawberry SPF 15 lip balm and @colourpopcosmetics #lippiepencil in BFF2 (a medium sienna nude).

12. Lipstick—@Hudabeauty Matte Lipstick in PAY DAY

13. Tear duct highlight @bperfectcosmetics Get Wet in SKIN SHEEN (gives skin an icy sheen and shine with micro reflects of white gold and blue).

I apply this luminous highlight with a fingertip. It glides on like silk and can be built-up depending on how glittery you want to to go. I think that for evening, in candlelight or low light this will pick up that light as you move for an enchanting/intriguing sparkle. I look forward to wearing this over the holidays.

14. Never forget the setting spray! Using @urbandecay #de-slick oil control setting spray. This is the final look.

So, what makeup did you buy for #blackfriday?! Do tell! What product or items were you waiting for to go on sale? 🙂 So many great sales out there!

I hope everyone is looking forward to the winter holidays, even with all the chaos from the pandemic. Stay warm, and stay safe! Sending love!

xoxo, Jen
